Great Cape Town African Restaurant: Marco’s African Place

Bookmark and Share

Cape Town South Africa has some wonderful restaurants that serve every kind of food you can imagine. We tried several during our visit to this lovely city. If you want to truly experience South Africa, don’t miss Marco’s African Place at 15 Rose Lane in the historic Bo-Kaap Quarter located on the slopes of Signal Hill.

For a taste of African culture, excellent cuisine and ethnic music, you can’t beat Marco’s. I recommend the Pan African Platter consisting of fillets of springbok, ostrich and kudu. How much more African can you get? Chef and owner, Marco, whose father was a chef, attended Hotel School near Soweto. He opened African Place in 1993 and it was an immediate success. We enjoyed this lively restaurant so much that I use it in a scene of my forthcoming mystery novel.

After a great meal, just settle back with an Amarula, a popular African after dinner liqueur, and join the locals as they enjoy African entertainment. But be careful, you may be invited to join in the dancing.

  4. Oh Dear…I LIVE in Cape Town and have to hear about this restuarant from a visitor!
In my defence I live in the deep south and ,seldom, venture back over the mountain once I am home.
I see from your post titles you went to Khayelitsha too.
Somewhere else I have never been!

    • How fun to hear from you. We loved Cape Town. What a beautiful city by the sea. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and saw many similarities between the two cities. San Francisco is a city of villages. The various sections of Cape Town remind me of neighborhood villages. Khayelitsha is also impressive when you consider what the residents have accomplished with very little. Again, nice to hear from you.

    • I wish I was coming to Johannesburg. We were there for about a day on our way to our safari location. What little I saw of your beautiful city calls me to return. It’s on our list of wonderful places to spend some quality time.

  7. How delightful to discover this restaurant too, thanks Nancy! Although living in Jo’burg now, I also come from Cape Town and hadn’t heard of it 🙂

My first novel contains loads of Cape Town scenes, but clearly not this one. Please keep us posted about your book, Nancy – I’d love to read it!!

  8. My goodness. I can hardly imagine anyone “being from” Cape Town. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. While it’s a sophisticated city, it is also a city of villages like San Francisco, another favorite.

While the restaurant is neither pretentious nor elegant. It’s a restaurant that welcomes you with open arms.

  16. With having so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagiarism or copyright infringement?

My blog has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my agreement. Do you know any ways to help stop content from being stolen? I’d
    certainly appreciate it.
