Cape Town South Africa has some wonderful restaurants that serve every kind of food you can imagine. We tried several during our visit to this lovely city. If you want to truly experience South Africa, don’t miss Marco’s African Place at 15 Rose Lane in the historic Bo-Kaap Quarter located on the slopes of Signal Hill.
For a taste of African culture, excellent cuisine and ethnic music, you can’t beat Marco’s. I recommend the Pan African Platter consisting of fillets of springbok, ostrich and kudu. How much more African can you get? Chef and owner, Marco, whose father was a chef, attended Hotel School near Soweto. He opened African Place in 1993 and it was an immediate success. We enjoyed this lively restaurant so much that I use it in a scene of my forthcoming mystery novel.
After a great meal, just settle back with an Amarula, a popular African after dinner liqueur, and join the locals as they enjoy African entertainment. But be careful, you may be invited to join in the dancing.

In my defence I live in the deep south and ,seldom,venture back over the mountain once I am home.

How fun to hear from you. We loved Cape Town. What a beautiful city by the sea. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and saw many similarities between the two cities. San Francisco is a city of villages. The various sections of Cape Town remind me of neighborhood villages. Khayelitsha is also impressive when you consider what the residents have accomplished with very little. Again, nice to hear from you.

My goodness. I can hardly imagine anyone “being from” Cape Town. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. While it’s a sophisticated city, it is also a city of villages like San Francisco, another favorite.
While the restaurant is neither pretentious nor elegant. It’s a restaurant that welcomes you with open arms.
