Facebook is an important vehicle for promoting your novel. However, it can also be a confusing maze to navigate. Here are some strategies that I’ve found work.
Once you have a Facebook account, start by creating an author page. You can create a page for all your books or for just one. This page is an easy way for readers to keep up with purchase locations and prices of your current novels. In addition, you can add new novels as you publish them. On the Facebook.com homepage, click on “Create a Page for a celebrity, band or business” then just follow the instructions.
You should create some common interest groups on your Facebook page. It will enable your readers to connect with others who share their interests. In my case I’ve created a group of authors. I will also refine this group by creating a subgroup of mystery writers. Facebook’s discussion allows direct interaction between readers in these groups via the discussion boards.
Link your Blog page and your website to your Facebook page. This enables your readers to jump directly to your other Internet locations and it stimulates their interest by enabling them to sample what you’ve added on these other sites. Don’t forget to add your website, blog and Twitter links to your profile.
Find out about keywords and use them liberally in everything you post. Google is a good resource for these popular search words. Add keywords as close to the beginning of your posts as possible. Get noticed.
Add video, photos and bookcovers. Learn how to use YouTube to create your videos.
Now you’re ready to begin promoting your novel. Keep in mind you shouldn’t make every post a promoting effort. Most of your posts need to focus on a variety of topics that will interest your readers and draw followers.
As you work with Facebook you’ll find many creative ways to promote your novels.
