The mystery novel is enjoying great popularity in Russia and Poland. One of the most popular writers of detective fiction in Poland is Marek Krajewski. This winner of the Great Calibre Award for best Polish detective novel also received the prestigious “Passport” from “Polityka” magazine in 2006. Death in Breslau is one of his celebrated novels.
In Russia Boris Akunin is considered one of the finest mystery writers. He published his first detective stories in 1998 and has already become one of the most widely read authors in Russia. His irascible investigator, Erast Fandorin,solves mysteries in a series of books one of which is The Winter Queen.
Translated into English, both these fine authors are worth a read.
