Edgar Allan Poe is considered the Father of the mystery novel. In 1841 he published the first murder mystery in Graham’s Magazine. The novel which is still popular today is titled “The Murders in the Rue Morgue.” The Edgar Award, named after Poe, is given by The Mystery Writers of America to authors who have written exemplary mystery novels.
